July 17, 2008 · Seminar "Government Procurement in Ukraine: Compliance with WTO Requirements and EU Directives" held at the World Bank office in Ukraine

USAID|TIBA and the World Bank organized a seminar for Ukrainian mass media sources with the aim of increasing awareness among the Ukrainian public and entrepreneurs of WTO and EU requirements and standards in the sphere of government procurement, and the benefits of bringing Ukrainian legislation regulating government procurement into compliance with international standards as well as steps to be taken by the Government of Ukraine in this direction. Bringing the Ukrainian government procurement system into compliance with international standards (and EU and WTO requirements in particular) will reduce opportunities for corruption in the government procurement sphere, encourage competition, and make the government procurement process more transparent and effective.

 

July 4,7,11, 2008 · Market development trainings for SMEs

USAID|TIBA together with the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine organized trainings for SME representatives in Odesa (July 4, 2008), Dnipropetrovsk (July 7, 2008), Simferopol (July 11, 2008) to assist Ukrainian businesses in benefiting from WTO accession, complying with market/regulatory requirements, and increasing exports. The training included information on using services of trade attachés, identifying and approaching potential buyers via the Internet, and maximizing use of commercial intelligence sites. The training also covered planning of and participation in trade fairs and exhibitions, and how to find exhibitions that are the most relevant to each company’s needs.

 

June 27, 2008 · Training: Market development training for SMEs in Lviv

The goal of this training was to assist Ukrainian businesses in benefiting from WTO accession, complying with market/regulatory requirements, and increasing exports. The training included information on using services of trade attachés, identifying and approaching potential buyers via the Internet, and maximizing use of commercial intelligence sites. The training also covered planning of and participation in trade fairs and exhibitions, and how to find exhibitions that are the most relevant to each company’s needs. This section included information on the benefits of trade fairs, and preparation for and follow-up after exhibitions.

 

June 25, 2008 · USAID|TIBA participated in a round table discussion "State Procurement in Ukraine: Problems and Perspectives"

USAID|TIBA participated in a round table "State Procurement in Ukraine: Problems and Perspectives" organized by the National Institute for Strategic Studies to discuss the following issues: problems of the state procurement system in Ukraine; draft Law of Ukraine "On Procurement of Goods, Works, and Services with State Funds" (No. 2263-1 of May 12, 2008); brining of state procurement system into compliance with international standards (and EU and WTO requirements in particular). USAID|TIBA also presented its comments to the Draft Government Procurement Law adoption of which will help to reduce opportunities for corruption in the GP sphere, encourage competition, and make the GP process more transparent and effective.

 

June 19, 2008 · Sales and Marketing Training for Food Safety Consulting and Auditing Companies

This training was designed to help food safety companies improve their business. Topics addressed included the differences between the various types of audits, certifications, trainings, and consulting services available, and participants were acquainted with trends that are expected to impact Ukrainian companies
